The combination of ingredients is perfect, the cheesy sauce complement the flavor of cabbage so well that even people who don't care for cabbage like it.
Scalloped Cabbage
Ingredients
1/2 medium head of cabbage, chopped (about 4 cups)
3 Tbsp butter
3 Tbsp flour
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 to 1 1/2 cups milk
salt and pepper to taste
bread crumb topping
3/4 cup bread crumbs
2 Tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
Place chopped cabbage in the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish. In a large skillet melt the 3 tablespoons of butter and then sprinkle in the 3 tablespoons of flour, stirring constantly. Then add the milk, stirring until thick and smooth. You can add more milk if needed to you get the consistency you prefer. Gradually add the cheese and the salt and pepper. Evenly spread cheese mixture over cabbage. In a small bowl combine the bread crumbs and butter. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the cheese mixture. Bake uncovered in a 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes until cabbage is tender and topping is golden brown.
